With our allergy testing, you may identify the underlying reason for your skin and body responses. Find out whether you have allergies to items you breathe in, ingest, or come into touch with and avoid future triggers to prevent your symptoms from becoming worse.
What Is an Allergy Test?
An allergy test is a diagnostic technique that is carried out to establish whether or not a person has an allergic response to a particular chemical or allergen.
The reaction of the body’s immune system to the allergen is measured by the test, which may be a skin test or a blood test. That said, the findings of the test contribute to the determination of the underlying medical condition and provide direction for the formulation of a treatment strategy for allergic reactions and how to prevent them from occurring in the future.
Why Would Someone Get an Allergy Test?
The goal of allergy testing is to identify the specific allergens that are responsible for a person’s symptoms of sensitivity. The following are some of the reasons someone may request getting an allergy test:
- Symptoms of asthma and hay fever
- Atopic urticaria and angioedema
- Food allergies
- Rashes on the skin when touching various objects and/or pets
- Penicillin allergy
- Venom allergy
- Among others…
What to Expect During the Test
The allergy testing process is known to be gentle and almost painless. Throughout the allergy test, there will be little pricking of the skin that could result in a very little amount of discomfort.
If you have an allergy to the chemical that is being tested, you may have symptoms such as itching, a stuffy nose, red eyes with watery discharge, or a rash on your skin in the area where the pricking was done.
If you’re looking to test for several allergies, patch testing is also available. Patch testing may sometimes be uncomfortable and itchy due to the fact that we are testing for several allergens at once. That said, when the patch tests are removed, you will no longer experience these symptoms.
